現社長の私、西内慎平の祖父にあたる西内正三が、勤め先の廃業を機に、独立する形で有限会社西内鉄工所を創業したことが始まりです。毎日仕事が終わる頃には、トリスウイスキーが一瓶空いているような人でしたが、その仕事ぶりは非常に丁寧で、仕上がりがきれいだと顧客の間では評判でした。
Nishiuchi Ironworks Company, of which I, Shinpei Nishiuchi, am the current CEO, was originally founded independently by my grandfather Shozo Nishiuchi when his place of employment closed down. My grandfather was apparently the type who would empty a bottle of Tory’s Whiskey every day after work finished, but his work had a positive reputation from customers for being incredibly precise while possessing a beautiful finish.

二代目社長の西内堅詞は大変な自信家で、「うちに曲げられないものはない」のはもちろん、「つまらん仕事」を持ってくる取引先には面と向かってぼやくので、昔からの取引先からは、いまだにそれを話題にしてからかわれます。それもまた長く親しみを持っていただいている証拠かな、と思います。
また、自信があるということは、自社の技術者との間にしっかりとした信頼関係があったという証拠でしょう。
The second-generation president, Katashi Nishiuchi was always brimming with confidence. He would of course say things like, “there’s nothing we can’t bend!” and teasing stories about his consternation at “boring work” brought from old business partners still circulate today. I think these stories demonstrate the long-lasting ties that were built. 
Also, the fact that he possessed confidence shows how much strong trust there was in the company between the engineers. 

そして2008年に二代目社長が他界。当時、私はまだ新卒1年目の22歳だったため、二代目社長の妻で現社長の母である西内美奈恵が社長に就任しました。以前は、思い切った事業の拡大に挑む夫の姿を見ながら、「お父さんにもし何かあれば、子供たち3人を連れて海にでも飛び込むしかない」と不安を口にした母でしたが、いざ本当に父を失ったときに、決してそのようなことにならないよう、支えてくれたのは従業員はじめ、信頼でつながった周りの方々でした。
In 2008, the second-generation president passed away. At that time, I was still a 22-year-old fresh college graduate, so his wife – my mother, Minae Nishiuchi – became the president. In the past, seeing her husband working so hard to expand his business, she worried that, “if something were ever to happen to him, the only thing I could do would be to jump into the ocean with my three children.” When we really did lose my father, it was the employees and people around us who showed their support to never let something like that happen.

私は大学を卒業し、機械メーカーに丁稚奉公のような形で就職しました。もともと実家の状況を知った上で受け入れてくれていた就職先からも、帰ってやりなさいと背中を押していただきました。従業員の中には、父母よりも年の離れた熟練の職人もいましたが、彼らによる日々のサポートのおかげでスムーズな世代交代ができたことに感謝しています。
I graduated from university and got an apprentice-like position at a machine maker. The company accepted me knowing full-well about my situation at home, and they gently encouraged me to go back and take over my family business. I am grateful to all of the skilled workers even older than my parents who made it possible for a smooth generational transition through their day-to-day support.
